I had to put my thoughts down as soon as I came back from seeing the movie, so it would be fresh in my mind. I wrote it up in MSWord and just saved it for today:
The boys and I went to see The Passion on Ash Wednesday, first showing at 11:30 a.m., after we had gone to Mass. It was a very moving film, as we expected, but nothing could prepare me for what we saw. I had to look away during several scenes and cover my face. Whenever I covered my face, all I could think was, “I’m sorry.. I’m sorry.“ and "Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell.. lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy." I found myself sobbing out loud as I watched Mary run to her son. I was a little apprehensive about taking my kids, but they handled watching this better than I did. They watched the entire movie, unflinching. We discussed it a lot on the way home. We did have a few questions. We didn’t understand the symbolism of Satan holding the baby. I did a lot of reading on Free Republic, as well as discussing it with a friend, trying to come up with the answers. One point my friend brought up is that the baby had Pilate's face. That was something I missed.
My son is going again with his youth group today (I can't sit through it again.) My son said he'll see if he notices the baby's face.
An afterthought is that Peter and John both called Mary, "Mother." Nice touch. In reading Free Republic, one thing I noticed is some Protestants finally “GET” our devotion to Mary... and atheists questioning their beliefs (or rather, lack of...) Go Mel.
On the homefront note, we finally got the piano into it's place. Now I have to have someone come look at it. I hope this piano turns out to be more than just a piece of "nice furniture."
Last week, I went to see "Em" again. Before I left I finally left a note for her parents (like I have been meaning to do.) In it, I had left a medal and explained that it would remind them and her that I am praying for them. I added, that as I know they are not Catholic, if this made them uncomfortable to just leave it in the envelope and I'd know to keep it. (I would rather keep it than know they just tossed it, you know?) Anyway, I was thrilled when I went on Friday and.....it was hanging over her bed!!!! I don't think it is just my imagination, but she moves her arms and legs more, and is more responsive. I told her some corny jokes and seeing her laugh made my day.
I'm going to go ahead and post this, and do some "blog running." I also need to add my Phototime picture sometime today.
