What's Letterboxing?

I mentioned last time that I had gone letterboxing this past weekend in Waco. The definition at www.letterboxing.org is "LETTERBOXING is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming "treasure hunt" style outdoor quest."

There is also a variation called geocaching (which is more high-tech and involves GPS.) Seems there are a lot more geocaches out there than letter boxes, but I don't feel running out and buying the equipment yet.

This is the one I found this weekend. It was pretty easy.

The boys and I have been out twice, trying to find this one, which is supposed to be "easy." Oh well. Maybe three times is the charm?

Movies

I don't go to the movies often. There were two I really wanted to see, but never did get there. One was out on video finally, so I got it a few weeks ago: Second-Hand Lions. I cannot stress enough what a great movie this is. The story alone is engaging, but then you add the cast and oh my! I absolutely love Robert Duvall and his character brings Gus to life yet again. (I see Gus in about every character he plays now, but this one really clinches it.) Michael Caine is wonderful, too, as the more sedate of the two crazy old men. Haley Joel Osment shines yet again. The boys didn't want to watch this one at first because well... I picked it and my youngest whined, "chickkkkkkkkk flickkkkkkkk." However, they were pleasantly surprised and so was I (they actually loved something I picked.) We all laughed, I sniffled, and we all thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Three thumbs up.

Oh, and the other? Master and Commander. I'm gonna go pick that up, probably tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Wednesday

Well.. we had a long weekend. The boys went to a Boy Scout Merit Badge Camp. While they were in their classes, I took off all over Waco and did the gypsy photographer thing. I went to the Browning Museum (as in Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning.) I went to a beautiful Church, St. Francis. I even went letterboxing and found my first one at the Texas Ranger Museum. I walked by the Waco suspension bridge (see my photo page.) I went to a scrapbook shop. Oh, and I got my hair cut. It was nice to spend a day doing absolutely.. nothing.

Reality set in when I got back, though, because I noticed Monday evening and especially Tuesday morning, our poor dog's arthritis was acting up again. Had to run her to the vet yesterday. She's back on her meds and doing better. This is the second time she's had a flare up.

Still plugging along with the kids school and finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. :: sigh ::

Camping

I'm back!!! Went camping this past weekend and had a great time. I was quite the picture-taking fool. I used one of them for Phototime this week. More later.
